The Predator
Heart blasted in my ears. My sisters snuffling cries, pierced through me. Her ragged breathing on edge. Her nails imprinted my hand. Whispers of motivation and love, constant now of the fear looming above us. Creaking head board shaking with the rhythm of our bodies. The unbearable shrieking of the mice as they wrestled in the attic above. Our trembling breaths mixed with stench of dried blood that had pooled the floor. The sound of the breeze crashing onto the skeleton trees. Our ears used to the silent roads. Struggling hoots of the suffering owls materialized in the air. The wooded panels of our lonely hallway creaked by his steps. Doors banged into the walls. This is the calling of our predator. Breaths hitched in our throats. Our terror mirrored in each others eyes. He struggles with the door and our silent prayers turn into loud pleas. Broken hinges clinked onto the floor, in a race away from what had displaced them. The door now torn from its place lay uselessly near where we hid. His tattered boots and ripped jeans came uncomfortably close. A vicious presence now stood in silence letting our brains imagine the horror yet to come. Bending his knees, his evil face comes into the view. Eyes mockingly laughed at us holding each other. One last squeeze of her fragile body. My mind running for other escapes, but the fear didn’t let me move. It was over when the thought emerged even before she was hauled away.
